Stan – Stories Within
When looking at this assignment, the one thing that kept coming to mind was music. I feel as though for many people, music is simply something to put on in the background. With that being said, there are also plenty of artists that tend to lack high quality lyricism and storytelling abilities, allowing for their music to fill that craving for some people. Some of us, on the other hand, love to truly listen deeply to lyrics and understand the stories being told through the songs. The best example of this I can think of is Eminem’s song “Stan.” While the chorus is incredibly catchy, it is essentially impossible to listen to the song without finding yourself with a movie of the events in your mind. While it is vulgar, it adds a serious tone that helps fully shape the story.
In my word cloud, the word that stands out the most, directly in the middle of the image, reflects what the listener feels the most upon listening, especially if you add a simple “…” to the end. The word cloud generated this way, without any manipulation from me, and I felt that it was an incredibly perfect fit. Along with that, the other words that are larger and stand out more are very basic and don’t tell much. It’s almost an homage to the concept I previously addressed: the idea of looking deeper into a song to pull more meaning. Though I feel that this song is on the extremely blunt side, that typically isn’t the case.
