The Ross Get Down
With this remix assignment, I wanted to do my best to incorporate elements from the original prompt while also hitting the purpose of the remix. I believe I was able to achieve this by designing a poster for a DS106 event that can simultaneously be a fun activity and a great way to advertise the class. My original idea was to create something retro looking, but I suddenly felt inspired to create a more “high tech,” almost futuristic style design as I wanted the event to take place at a club with a multicolored floor and neon lights.
I was able to use a picture I’ve previously used of Bob Ross as the front man of the poster, applying multiple effects to color him appropriately, then splicing him up to create a distorted effect. I believe the colors work very well together and make the poster feel very warm and inviting, while also being simplistic but abstract enough to be eye catching. I also felt like it would be fun to be incorporate details that may not be picked up on first glance but are fun Easter eggs to point out, such as the names of the DJ and group playing at the event. Having the opportunity to remix this particular assignment was helpful because I debated completing this assignment before but had trouble thinking of an event, but this time around it was practically given to me on a silver platter: The Ross Get Down.
